DIY Scary(ish) Halloween Decorations

nikkicreekmore

This Halloween due to the pandemic we created a haunted hay maze for our friends and family! Upon taking this task on I was SO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!! I LOVE Halloween ! It has always been my favorite holiday. When else can you become ANYTHING you want to be without criticism , without prejudice, without stress etc...... Anyway I want to share these DIY Halloween decorations that I took on this year!

DIY Ghosts

Supplies:

- Cling wrap

_ Packing tape

- White / translucent material

- Fishing line

- Hot glue

For this hack I wrapped myself in cling wrap and then wrapped myself with packing tape. For the person who is like me and just kind of jumps in feet first without thinking sometimes, THIS SHOULD BE A 2 PERSON PROJECT! I wrapped myself from toe to shoulders...including arms and hand. I DID THIS ALL BY MYSELF! When it came time to cut the tape off I was worried I would have to call for reinforcements. It was pretty difficult cutting a straight line, not mess up what I had accomplished, and get it off me before I completely lost all circulation to the bottom half of my body! Once you cut it off of stuff some cling wrap on the inside as a stuffing for stability , then tape everything back together! I used a hot glue gun to add the fishing line that I wrapped under the arms and added some fabric to add a more ghostly appeal! Have fun!

( please ignore the clutter. had not intended to post)

DIY Giant Spider

Supplies:

- Big Black trash bags

- newspaper

-Fishing line

-Red and white acrylic paint

Get a trash bag and fill 80% of the bottom with newspaper. Tie it off with the fishing line and manipulate the bag to look as desired. Then fill the remaining 20% of the trash bag with the remaining newspaper and tie off once again, but this time cut off any remaining trash bag. You will then paint on the spiders face. I chose oversized eyes and mouth because it just seemed creepier to me LOL. When the paint has dried you will want to attavh the spiders legs. I used pipe cleaners maily because I started late and couldnt find any pool noodles for my legs this time of year. Attach fishing line in the end of the butt of the spider ( like a web) and also attach fishing line around the head of the spider to bring it up to face someone if needed.

DIY Mummies

Supplies:

-Duct Tape

-Trash bag

-cheese cloth

- Tea

-Balloon

-Newspaper

This one we did while my girls had a friend over so we worked in groups of 2. You want to start with the cheese cloth so that it has time to dry .Cheese cloth will need to be soaked in steeped tea for approx. 15 minutes then laid out to dry . Once dry , cheeseclth will need to be cut into 1-2 inch strips depending on how you want you mummy to look..One person wrapped the other person in 13 gallon size normal trash bags ( as to keep the tape from sticking to your body or clothing). Then once the person was entirely covered up to their neck the person was then wrapped entirely in duct tape. The duct tape is then cut off the person preferably in one straight cut. An added metal rod or stick for a stability inside along with some newspaper for stuffing is helpful but can work without. The mummy is then spray painted antique white. A balloon will need to be blown up and wrapped in trash bag/duct tape as well. Pop the baloon and stuff the inside of the head with newspaper Attach the head to the body and wrap with cheese cloth until your mummy looks like a mummy!

Oh how I wish I would have thought ahead and cleaned a little behind these pictures... Anyway this one was probably the coolest of the DIY scary decorations. I hope everyone gets into the Halloween spirit next year and tries one of these decorations. They were fun , taught some teamworking skills and added to our maze of bloody tears' scariness in the end! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Halloween.
